Murmuration Chandelier
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Innovative property company, The Collective, commissioned Harvey & John to create Murmuration Chandelier; a kinetic lighting sculpture inspired by a murmuration of Starlings.
Much like a murmuration, the chandelier fleets in and out of seeming disorder to form precise patterns and shapes. The analogy of lots of individuals coming together to make something beautiful resonates with The Collective’s ethos of creating communities in their space at Bedford Square and beyond.
HOW IT WORKS
Murmuration Chandelier consists of 20 patinated stainless steel rings that taper in diameter. Each ring has its own microcontroller and motor, the further down the sculpture, the faster the rotation. The kinetic sculpture can also be controlled by an App to change the colour, speed and direction of movement.
